In what appears to be significant change at the top of the Pipe Band World, Glen Brown has resigned as the Pipe Major of the Peel Regional Police Pipe Band, and John Cairns has resigned as the Pipe Sergeant of the 78th Fraser Highlanders, and has taken the role of Pipe Major of Peel.
John Cairns has a distinguished Solo Piping career, most notably the winning of both Gold Medals in 1999 and a Bratach Gorm in 2004.
Cairns says, “I am honoured to accept the invitation to become the new Pipe-Major of the Peel Regional Police, and am delighted to begin working with all of the talented musicians in this band”. “With a continued level of commitment, dedication and teamwork, I am confident that the band will achieve continued success on the pipe band circuit. Although I will miss working with the wonderful people in the Scottish Lion-78th Fraser Highlanders and wish them success, this exciting new venture is one I look forward to”.

Andy Rewick, Pipe Major of the world-renowned Vale of Atholl Pipe Band, has resigned from the leading Grade 1 Band due to a reported work/life imbalance. In his place will be Adrian Cramb, current Pipe Sergeant of the Band, and a member since 1984.
Andy Rewick will stay playing with the band, the band reports.
The Vale of Atholl Pipe Band had a disapointing start to the season, with a disqualification at the British Championships. However, the band fought back to place 9th at the World Pipe Band Championships, and came runner-up in the qualifier.
A popular choice, Adrian has been with the Vale since starting the pipes. He first competed with the band in Santa Rosa in 1984 at the tender age of 14. Adrian is a Vale stalwart, having played with the band in Grade 1 all through the Ian Duncan era, subsequently becoming Pipe Sergeant after the appointment of Andy Renwick as Pipe Major.
