

For the first time ever, the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) will stream the World Pipe Band Championships live on the internet, Pipes|Drums reports today.
In a statement to Pipes|Drums, Grigor Stirling, Producer of Sport Programming, said that the Grade 1 Qualifier, MSR and Medleys will be covered, and that the March-Past and the prize-giving ceremony will both be broadcast live via the Internet.
This recognises the interest in the World Pipe Band Championships as the premier event for the pipe band communtiy world-wide.
PBNews will be reporting the action from the Worlds, live as it happens, and will endeavour to bring you results as they happen.
Stuart Easton swept up all the prizes at the annual Brown Cup and Everest Piobaireachd Competition, held at the Police College in Wellington.
Iain Robertson was the runner up in the Brown Cup, and Lindsay May came 2nd in the Everest Memorial Piobaireachd.

Dr Brendon Eade, noted soloist and Pipe Major of the Grade 1 Hamilton Caledonian Society Pipe Band, has stepped down from his Pipe Major role. In a statement from the band, the Secretary noted “It is with regret that the Hamilton Caledonian Society’s Pipe Bands announce the resignation of its Pipe Major ”
Brendon Eade won the 2005 & 2006 Grade 2 National Championships and led the band in its Grade One career.

Fergus Mathieson, a prodigal member of the Dunedin and Otago piping community, passed away at 1:30pm on Sunday, during the Queens Birthday Competitions. He passed away at the Otago Community Hospice.
He is survived by his wife, and his son Lester.
The Funeral will be on Thursday at 11am. Details will be updated as they become available. The thoughts of the Piping community are with Fergus’ family.
