

Angus McColl celebrated during the weekend, after his successful win at the Donald McDonald Quaich event. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of this prestigious Piobaireachd event which has been held annually at The Clan Donald Centre,Skye.
Angus played Lady MacDonald’s Lament.
Other competitiors were
- Robert Watt, Glengarry’s March
- Niall Stewart, Too long in this Condition
- Roddy MacLeod, Lament for the Departure of King James
The judge for the event was Dr Jack Taylor.

Stuart Easton took the overall prize for a second weekend in a row when he competed at the Wellington Pipers Club competitions on Saturday. Brendon Eade won the Everest Cup for the Piobaireachd, with Easton second. Stuart managed to win the Brown Cup, with Murray Mansfield runner up. Numbers were high this year, with 15 competing in the Piobaireachd and 18 in the Light music. (more…)

Richard Hawke, one of New Zealand’s premier solo pipers, was invested into the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to Pipe Bands; a thoroughly deserved award for a man who has given everything he can to piping over the past 30 or so years, including two successful stints as Pipe Major of the Canterbury Caledonian Pipe Band. He was awarded the medal during the Queens Birthday Honours list; a fitting moment for him, considering he was in attendance at the Queens Birthday Solo competitions where several of his students had been successful. Stuart Easton was the overall winner at the Queens Birthday Solo competitions, held in Dunedin on the weekend. Stuart won the 6/8 March and the Hornpipe and Jig, while Brendon Eade won the Piobaireachd and 2/4 Marches. Callum Gilchrist won overall B Grade, including taken the Silver Medal Piobaireachd.
