

Field Marshal Montgomery have been crowned World Pipe Band Champions for 2011, finishing 18 points clear of the nearest band Simon Fraser University. Scottish Power broke the top 3 for the first time, finishing 3rd, and new-comers Inveraray and District finishing 4th. St Laurence O’Toole and Boghall and Bathgate fill out the rest of the top 6.
Shotts and Dykehead won the Drumming overall, being the first band to win it from the qualifier since 2001. Boghall and Bathgate won the MSR and Field Marshal won the Medley.
Earlier in the day, Manawatu qualified for the afternoon’s World Pipe Band Championship finals, finishing 4th in the Grade 1 Qualifer.
Canterbury Caledonian finished 8th in the qualifier.

Both the Canterbury Caledonian Society Pipe Band and Manawatu Scottish Pipe Band had good starts to their respective 2011 World Pipe Band Championship campaigns, with Manawatu finishing runners-up to Field Marshal Montgomery in Ireland. Back in Scotland, Canterbury Caledonian finished 3rd in both the MSR and Medley at North Berwick, behind Boghall and Bathgate, and took 5th at Bridge of Allan the next day. (more…)
