Best International Drummer of 2013
Keith Orr
Keith has led the Field Marshal Montgomery drum corps since 2004, and since then has had a few drumming prizes – but 2013 was his stellar year, leading his corps to British, European and World Championship titles. Keith’s contribution to the FM ensemble is absolutely huge and deserves more recognition than is given usually. His ability to string together talented corps and perform musical scores is one of the reasons why Field Marshal was yet again so dominant in 2013.
Also in consideration:
- Steven McWhirter
Another Solo World Championship title for the Inveraray LD who continues to – like Jack Lee – mesmerize with music and control. He led his young, talented group of drummers to their first ever victory at the Cowal Championships, and more prizes will come their way for sure.
- Gordon Brown
Boghall and Bathgate’s leading drummer continues to push the boundaries in pipe band drumming, putting 15 side drummers on the park this season and never finishing far from the top. He claimed the Scottish Championships this year as well. One of his prodigies – Craig Brown – made the final of the World Solos for the second year in a row, showing the Boghall machine at work.
- Grant Cassidy
If flying around the world playing with the Red Hot Chilli Pipers wasn’t demanding enough, Grant found time to win his 8th World Solo Drumming title in October after a heavy tour load overseas. He is now out of the juvenile grades and sure to impress.
