Canterbury Caledonian, ILT City of Invercargill, South Canterbury Highland Pipe Band and Mataura Kilties took the top honours in Dunedin at the weekend. Canterbury Caledonian competed only on the Sunday, and were the only Grade 1 band in attendance all weekend. City of Invercargill won Grade 2 both days, ahead of Temuka and City of Dunedin. Invercargill also won the Juvenile.
In Grade 3, South Canterbury continued their strong season with two wins over John McGlashan College during the two day contest. They also took the drumming and ensemble.
In Grade 4, Mataura Kilties triumphed in an 11-strong competition which saw a relatively high standard of playing on both days. They also won the Drumming.
The contest had a very strong showing of support, with over 22 individual bands entered in the five grades. Organisers are talking of expanding the contest next year and attracted bands from further afield.
