Torphichen & Bathgate and Cap Caval, two bands who performed exceptionally well at the Grade 2 World Pipe Band Championships, have been promoted to Grade 1 by the RSPBA, Pipes|Drums reports.

Bagad Cap Caval, the first Breton Band to be recognised by the RSPBA as an official Grade 1 Unit, won the World Pipe Band Championships earlier in August. Torphichen won the Champion of Champions award for 2008.

Torphichen & Bathgate was previously in Grade 1 in the early-mid 1990′s.
